The Last Parade?

(Not quite as another parade took place on the 3rd June 2012 for the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee)

On Saturday 15^th of September 2007, there took place what might be the last occasion when the R.E.M.E. Garrison could exercise it’s privilege to march through the centre of Wokingham Town as Honorary Townsfolk. If this be the case then a very long relationship between the Corps and the town comes to a sad end.

The report below appeared in the Wokingham Times, published on the 19^th of September 2007.

It was always believed that the Corps quick march was entitled Lilliburlero but the reporter has come up with a new name, Lillie Bordello, which, on reflection, may be more appropriate.

The R.E.M.E. Corps Quick March is based on Lilliburlero and incorporates a version of the French tune Aupres de ma blonde.
