Algy writes….

I like this photo, brings back many memories. Its was taken circa 1955. I had left AAS in 1954 and was posted to 36 Base Wksps in Greenford, Middlesex. I had been promoted to L/Cpl in 1955 and went back to AAS to visit my two old friends, Frank Townsend and Mike Roberts. Frank was A/CSM of D Coy(I think?) and Mike was a little jeep just starting his 3 years in the School. A common factor between us was that our fathers had been Officers together either in Bordon or HQ 43rd Wessex Division in Sherford Camp, Taunton. I'm sure they will remember if we meet up at this year's Reunion. As it happened, we all got commissioned at different times later in our military careers. Mike went into the Aviation world and Frank and I stayed in the Tels world, serving together as majors in Malvern. Very happy memories, as I said earlier.

Alan's Easter Outfit at RFC w o

Alan alias Algy writes to explain:

As a collector of pics for the 49ers website, I thought you might like to see the attached!

A word of explanation is essential, in case you think I have flipped my mind more than normal. In our next village, we have the Ravenden Friendly Club (RFC) for the over-60s and I am currently the secretary. We meet once a month on a Tuesday afternoon and last month our theme was "An Easter Parade" with a decorated hat competition.

I couldn't resist wearing my blazer with a newly acquired AAS Badge, of which I am very proud, so my hat was a last minute concoction---no prize winner, naturally. (Nor did the raffle tickets come up!).
