CIVILIAN CAREER

1963: Moved to Germany with my wife, and went to work in the US oil construction business in Nigeria for 11 years. I spent 25 years in the Middle East and Far East, the last 15 years of which, as offshore construction Superintendent/Captain of various oilrigs scattered around the globe.

1978: Moved back to Germany from Larnaca, Cyprus, where I had lived on a boat for 13 years.

 

Retired

1999 at age 65 years.

 

MARITAL & FAMILY STATUS

Married: three times – divorced, widowed, and married Elke on 19th April 2002.

Children: daughter Tina, born 1958, has an antique business in Bremen, Germany; son, born 1963, died in Algeria in 1983 aged 20 years.

We live in Kiel, the "sailing" city of Germany, on the Baltic, having had to move here from a small spa town called Bad Schwartau when Elke's firm closed their local branch in Lübeck, 60 kms south of here two years ago - when Elke retires in a few years we hope to move back there, or at least in the vicinity.
