IN MEMORIAM

John COPLEY

6 February 1928 to 14 August 2005

AAS Arborfield Intake 43A

“It is with regret that I inform members of the sad passing of John Copley.  John was an active member of my forum, a sharp-witted man who was sensible enough to remain a bachelor throughout his 77 years!

Aside from his sister, John had little family and this caused me some concern when his long absence from the ‘Cafι’ was becoming increasingly noticeable.  I was fortunate enough to have had some contact with John several weeks ago by telephone and he didn't sound at all well.  Point of fact he seemed resigned to accepting his short-comings and was quite matter-of-fact which was rather upsetting for me to hear.

I had hoped he would make a full recovery from his ailments but sadly John passed away on the 14th August, a detail confirmed by the Bodmin police.  There were no suspicious circumstances surrounding John's demise and the authorities are prevented from any elaboration.  Let us hope John passed peacefully and is now at rest.”

“I would like to thank the Bodmin Police for their prompt reply to the request for information on what had happened to John, in as much as he was not responding to E mails.

John was an Arborfield brat of 1943 vintage, a good year.

John was a very intelligent and witty chap and we exchanged E mails on many occasions and touched on a wide variety of topics. He was neither vain nor contentious in the years that I knew him, mainly via REME PaP website activities. He was always happy to join in the general site banter but had become suspiciously quiet over the last three months or so. Whatever illness it was that he succumbed to, it is my earnest hope that he did not suffer unduly in the manner of his passing.

I liked and admired John for his equanimity and unflagging good humour. He will be missed.”

Rest in peace old friend. Greg.
