I was posted to (5 Anti Aircraft Group Workshop REME) Newark in 1951 and met the girl I am now married to; we celebrate our Golden Wedding next year (2004). Dennis OSBORNE (49B) has just celebrated his Golden Wedding (2003), as has Frank MADDICK (48A). Frank and I first met on Reading Railway Station in February 1948 and have been pals ever since. Dennis (OSBORNE), who married my wife’s friend, is in Canada now.

I left Newark in 1952, returning in 1972 to do my resettlement prior to discharge, by which time it had been redesignated 33 Central Workshop REME.

The site of the workshops at Newark (located on the outskirts of the town on the road to Lincoln) is now occupied by Brownhills Mobile Homes and Caravan Sales. By logging on to their website http://www.brownhills.co.uk you can enter the site and then take a tour.
